FAQs

Singapore Travel FAQs

Everything travellers usually ask us before booking a Singapore holiday.

What is the best time to visit Singapore?
Singapore is warm, humid and tropical year-round, so any month works. February to April is marginally drier, while November to January is wetter. Rain usually comes as short, heavy afternoon showers.
How many days do I need in Singapore?
Three to four days covers the highlights comfortably. Add a day if you want a full day at Universal Studios or Sentosa, or use Singapore as a two-night stopover on a longer Asia trip.
Do I need a visa for Singapore?
Many nationalities enter visa-free for short stays; others, including Indian passport holders, generally require a visa arranged in advance through an authorised agent. All arrivals must submit an electronic arrival card before entry. Confirm the current requirements before travel.
Is Singapore expensive?
Accommodation and alcohol are expensive, but food need not be: hawker centres serve outstanding meals at very low prices, and public transport is cheap and excellent. Many attractions are free, including Gardens by the Bay outdoor gardens.
What are the must-do experiences in Singapore?
Gardens by the Bay and the Supertree light show, Marina Bay Sands SkyPark, Sentosa and Universal Studios, Singapore Zoo and the Night Safari, Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam, Jewel Changi Rain Vortex, and a hawker centre food crawl.
Is Singapore good for families?
Outstanding. It is safe, spotless, easy to navigate, and packed with family attractions: the zoo, River Wonders, Bird Paradise, Universal Studios, S.E.A. Aquarium and endless indoor options for rainy afternoons.
How do I get around Singapore?
The MRT is fast, cheap, air-conditioned and reaches almost everywhere. Buses fill the gaps, taxis and Grab are reasonably priced, and a contactless bank card works directly as a fare card.
Is Singapore safe?
It is one of the safest countries in the world, with very low crime. Laws are strictly enforced, however, including heavy penalties for drugs, littering, vaping and importing chewing gum.
Can I drink the tap water in Singapore?
Yes. Tap water meets World Health Organization standards and is safe to drink straight from the tap.
What is the food like in Singapore?
It is one of the world's great food cities. Try Hainanese chicken rice, chilli crab, laksa, char kway teow, satay and roti prata. Hawker centres such as Maxwell, Lau Pa Sat and Old Airport Road are the best place to start.
What should I wear in Singapore?
Light, breathable clothing, plus a layer for aggressively air-conditioned malls and restaurants. Bring an umbrella. Modest dress that covers shoulders and knees is needed for mosques and temples.
What is the currency in Singapore?
The Singapore dollar (SGD). Cards and contactless payments are accepted almost everywhere, including hawker stalls, though a little cash is still handy at older stalls and markets.
Is Singapore worth a stopover?
Very much. Changi Airport is a destination in itself, and a two-night stop pairs beautifully with Bali, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia or Australia. We build stopovers into longer Asia itineraries all the time.
Is Singapore good for honeymoons?
Yes, for a stylish short break: rooftop bars, the Marina Bay Sands infinity pool, fine dining and spa days, usually combined with a beach destination such as Bali, Phuket or the Maldives.
Can you customise a Singapore package?
Yes. Adjust the hotel category, add Universal Studios or Night Safari passes, extend to Malaysia, Bali or Thailand, or design a family or honeymoon version. Tell us your dates and we will quote it.
