You are met on arrival in Naples and transferred by private car along the coast to your hotel in cliff-top Sorrento. Settle into your home for the next five nights, then take an evening stroll along the panoramic promenade as the sun sinks behind Vesuvius and the lights of Naples begin to twinkle across the bay. A first seaside dinner sets the tone for the days to come.
Cross the sparkling water to the fabled island of Capri, playground of emperors and film stars alike. Weather permitting, glide into the ethereal Blue Grotto, then ride the chairlift to the summit of Monte Solaro for breathtaking views over the whole Bay of Naples. Explore the clifftop Gardens of Augustus and the chic piazzetta before returning to Sorrento in the late afternoon.
Today you travel the legendary Amalfi coastal road, a ribbon of tarmac carved into the cliffs with the sea glittering far below. Stop in Positano, the coast's most photographed village, cascading in pastel down to a pebble beach, then continue to the historic town of Amalfi with its dazzling striped cathedral. Enjoy a long seaside lunch and free time for beaches and boutiques before returning to Sorrento.
This morning, step back two thousand years at Pompeii, the Roman city buried and preserved by the catastrophic eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79. With your expert guide, walk the ancient streets past shops, villas, frescoes and the haunting plaster casts of its citizens, the brooding volcano ever-present on the horizon. The afternoon is free to relax back in Sorrento or take a dip in the sea.
A free day to embrace the coast at your own pace. Join an optional Italian cooking class, visit a family-run lemon grove and limoncello maker, charter a private boat to hidden swimming coves, or simply do nothing at all but read by the pool and watch the boats drift by. Your guide can arrange any experience you fancy.
