- Currency: The US dollar is widely used and accepted at resorts (the local currency is the Maldivian Rufiyaa); resorts bill in dollars and cards are widely accepted. Carry some cash for tips and local-island purchases; almost everything at resorts is charged to your room
- Best time to visit: The dry season (roughly November to April) offers the sunniest, calmest weather, ideal for beaches and diving; the wet season (May to October) is greener and quieter with occasional rain and better manta and whale-shark plankton, and remains warm year-round
- Resorts & local islands: Most resorts occupy their own private island, where relaxed swimwear is fine; on inhabited local islands, Maldivian culture is Islamic and conservative, so modest dress is required except on designated 'bikini beaches'. We arrange all transfers and plan timings carefully, as seaplanes fly in daylight only, occasionally with an overnight near the airport for late arrivals.
